A Battle Creek man who prosecutors say put up a phony for-sale ad in a robbery attempt was sentenced last week.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that 21-year-old Torry Pesche pleaded no contest to unarmed robbery last month in Calhoun County Court, and on Friday he was sentenced to 25 months to 15 years in prison.

Pesche, along with co-defendant Christian Logan, were accused of putting out a fake ad on Craigslist for a car in October of 2015. When two victims, Jon and Robert Vanderwiel of Grand Rapids, came to Bedford Township to buy the car, the accused attempted to rob them.

However, Jon Vanderwiel was carrying a legal firearm, and shot both attempted robbers in the chest.

The other accused robber, 24-year-old Christian Logan, was convicted by a jury in September on a charge of assault with intent to rob while unarmed. Logan was sentenced in November to 4 to 15 years in prison.
