A Battle Creek man is in custody on drug charges and is also expected to face charges for auto theft and burglary. Battle Creek police say the 41-year-old was found sleeping inside a car at a parking lot of a business in the 500 block of East Emmett Street Sunday evening at around 10:30pm. When they woke him up, a search of the car turned up a used needle and plastic baggies with suspected meth and heroin.

About two hours later, a woman called police to report her car stolen from outside her residence on Surby Avenue. She told officers she awoke to find someone had entered her home and taken the car as well as $60 from her purse. Police determined the car the man was in at the store parking lot was the woman's car. The suspect said the woman was a friend of his girlfriend and she loaned him the car. The woman told police she did not loan the car to him and had no relationship with him.
