After conducting a search of the home, police exited to find a man with a gun, who then allegedly opened fire on the officers.  An officer returned fire, striking the man; the man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were inured.

The man was found to have two handguns in his possession, and an autopsy is being conducted in Grand Rapids.

The officer who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave, and and investigation will be conducted by the Michigan State Police.
