Binder Park Zoo Opens Today with New Additions
I'm not monkeying around!
The Binder Park Zoo says a new colobus monkey named Usi will be on exhibit starting this spring. Usi’s parents are mother Azizi, born at the zoo in 2006, and 7-year-old father Christopher, who arrived at the zoo in 2012. The zoo says Azizi had poor parenting skills, so Usi was raised by animal care staff. The zoo says Usi has been successfully reintroduced to his parents and the colobus troop.
According to the African Wildlife Foundation, colobus Monkeys, unlike other monkeys, they do not have thumbs.
The name “colobus” is derived from the Greek word for “mutilated,” because unlike other monkeys, colobus monkeys do not have thumbs.-AWF
They live in all types of closed forests, and Bamboo stands are also popular dwelling spots for the colobus.
