Earlier this week, I saw a picture on the City of Kalamazoo's Facebook page. Temporary rainbow colored crosswalks have been laid down at Rose and South streets. Paid for privately. And yet.I know in this age of social media, everyone feels it's necessary to share their opinion on everything. But reading the comments section of this put me over the top. I know it will never happen, but it sure would be nice if someone would unplug the internet. I wish I could go back to being ignorant to the fact that I'm surrounded by so many ignorant people.

People tying this crosswalk to the Bronson Park controversy, to all kinds of other political agendas, to Biblical verses. And very clearly, everyone will an ax to grind and way too much time on their hands was more focused on exclaiming their own talking points than reading through the comments first, as some questioned public money being spend on a private cause, all the while others were posting that it was privately funded. (Listening is a lost virtue.)

Growing up, for a while, it seemed like we, as a society, were actually making some progress. Fool's Gold. Nope. It's worse now as it's ever been.

Amen, Brother.
