Centreville ‘Lego League’ Headed To State MDOT Competition

The next generation of structural engineers and architects may be coming from Centreville. A "Lego League" program competition conducted by the Michigan Department of Transporation will see Centreville well represented.According to a story in the Sturgis Journal, the school's "Lego League" team is competing in a MDOT Bridge Challenge in May, Older students competed in April, and pictures are on MDOT's Facebook page.

This year, curriculum director Barb Lester and Lemmer received grants to run Lego League for first- through third-graders. Fifty children registered, far beyond Lemmer’s expectation. So with help from parents and junior and senior high students, there were two first-grade teams, one second-grade team and a third-grade team. With the theme “Aqua Challenge,” students learned about identifying problems with water and possible solutions. They then created prototypes to test the solutions they identified. - Sturgis Journal

More than 900 teams compete in Michigan. It appears the next generation of designers and builders is off to a good start.
