UPDATE: @OHLInsiders reporting coaching staff re-instated. And with new three year contracts. The old saying is there's strength in numbers. The University of Missouri football team proved that this week, and now, in a totally different situation, the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League are dealing with the entire team quitting after the coaching staff was fired.

The firings came after the Firebirds scored a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Oshawa Generals. As word got to the players that coach John Gruden and his staff were fired, players immediately went to the front office and one by one threw their jerseys on the floor and left.

Some stories circulating had the team's owner, Rolf Nilsen, unhappy with the amount of playing time his son, Hakon, was getting. Reports from Twitter account @OHLInsider today have Hakon Nilsen, who quit with the rest of his teammates, possibly being traded to Sudbury, ONT of the OHL. A group meeting between OHL leadership, owner Nilsen, the coaches and players is scheduled for mid afternoon in Flint.

Nilsen bought the Plymouth Whalers last year and moved them to Flint.

This whole story sounds like it would make a great Disney movie, along the lines of the Mighty Ducks, especially considering these are all 16 to 18 year olds.
