Did you know how many acres of land it takes to produce 1 megawatt of electricity using solar panels?

According to the Michigan Capitol Confidential, it takes 7.6 acres of land to produce 1 megawatt of electricity.

Did you know how many acres of land it takes to produce 1 megawatt of electricity using coal?

It takes less than 1/5 of an acre of land to produce 1 megawatt of electricity using coal, at least at the Presque Isle coal plant in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

By 2020 the Presque Isle coal plant is due to be shut down.  How will that effect the flow and cost of electricity to Michigan residents? We will see.

We do know via the numbers that a coal plant is 42 times more efficient than solar planes when it comes to land use.

I am not advocating that we not look for alternative ways of generating the electricity that we all depend on, but we certainly should know all the facts and consequences when it comes to generating electricity before we advocate one over another.
