About 800 runners braved the cold Sunday morning to participate in the third annual Portage Winter Blast Half Marathon and 5K.
The event, which started and ended at Portage Central High School, began with 5K runners taking off at 8 a.m. and the half-marathoners leaving the starting line at 8:10.
Kalamazoo Area Runners President Bonnie Sexton told MLive the race began as a way to celebrate Portage's 50th anniversary and has continued as a key fundraiser for the Kalamazoo Area Runners.
Bryan Reynolds, of Kalamazoo, took first place in the half marathon with a time of 1:17:44. Scott Evans, of Kalamazoo, won the 5K, with a time of 17 minutes and 38 seconds.
