Craig Kempf Truck Damage

A prominent business owner in Marshall and Calhoun County had their vehicle struck by debris on I-94 Monday afternoon.

The Michigan State Police responded to the westbound side of the highway near Beadle Lake Road in Emmett Township around 1:30pm, where a truck was severely damaged by an object, penetrating the windshield.

The driver was Craig Kempf, a funeral home director who owns chapels in Marshall, Battle Creek, Homer and Bellevue. He was not hurt, but his wife was struck in the shoulder by the object.

She was treated at Oaklawn Hospital and is recovering from a broken arm.

State troopers discovered that a 4-inch diameter piece of concrete caused the damage. The Michigan Department of Transportation cleaned up the area where other debris was found in the roadway and shoulder.

Authorities are not sure if the concrete was thrown or if it was loose from the roadway. The investigation continues on this case.
