A group named the Tax Foundation has ranked the relative value of a dollar in the United States. And while Michigan isn't at the top, it is certainly better than average and ahead of some pretty big states. The relative value of one hundred dollars here is $105.93. It's not quite as good as the leaders: Mississippi ($115.74), Arkansas ($114.16), Missouri ($113.51), Alabama (113.51), and South Dakota ($113.38), but certainly a whole lot better than the worst five: District of Columbia ($84.60), Hawaii ($85.32), New York ($86.66), New Jersey ($87.64), and California ($88.57).

The bad news is Michigan is behind most of the Great Lakes states. Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana. Only Illinois is below the $100.00 mark at 99.40.

While this isn't exactly a bragging rights battle, if one is considering relocating, it certainly plays a factor in what to ask for salary and other variables.
