A petition drive is up on change.org imploring the National Football League return to rock and roll for it's fiftieth Super Bowl halftime show.

Next year is Super Bowl 50. (The NFL has abandoned the traditional Roman numerals for the next big game) The petition says, "We don't need pop-tarts on mechanical tigers giving us flash and no substance, we need amps and drums cranked up and played with power and emotion.  It's time".

They've already collected 15,000 signatures.

While I'm all for Metallica, I don't know if it would be a wise decision for the NFL or for CBS (which is the broadcast network next year). If you are trying to attract an enormous audience, you'd be wise to appeal to the females. Guys are already going to watch the game, because it's football. You put a Madonna, Janet Jackson or Katy Perry, and you've got something for the non-football fans.
