The SPCA of Southwest Michigan took in 8 dogs displaced from Marlboro County, South Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. WWMT says these dogs were actually supposed to be in West Michigan about a week earlier, but were not able to make it because a bridge on the route was closed due to flooding. All 8 will need to undergo observation, both medically and behavioral, before becoming available for adoption.

Those looking to adopt a furry family member may want to consider doing so by Saturday, October 6, BISSELL Empty the Shelter Day. BISSELL Pet Foundation will pay for all pet adoptions at 100+ shelter and rescue organizations in 14 U.S. states. There is a screening process and potential adopters need to contact the specific shelter in their area prior for screening. Last years event saved 3,135 lives in just one day. Here are a list of shelters and rescues in Michigan that will be participating in the Empty the Shelter event.
