It's been a pretty quiet (and mild) winter so far. That's about to come to an end. A weekend "one-two" punch is coming our way. First, snow and then a massive blast of arctic air.

Both the National Weather Service and local forecasters from WWMT are predicting a significant snowfall for Friday night into Saturday.

Accumulating snow is likely mainly near to south of I-96 Friday
night and Saturday where 1 to 4 inches of snow is forecast. The
highest snow accumulations are expected near to south of I-94.
- National Weather Service, Grand Rapids

When you look at the specifics of the NWS forecast, their meteorologists are predicting a 2-5 snowfall in the Kalamazoo area, with the heaviest snow south of I-94, in places like Portage, Schoolcraft, Three Rivers and Mendon.

Behind that snow is frigid, arctic air that will send local temperatures below zero Sunday night.

Expect highs in the teens on Sunday and Monday, which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Temperatures should moderate beginning on Tuesday.
