A routine traffic stop over an improper plate led to the arrest of the driver on multiple charges.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers attempted to stop the car on Cameron St. near Lay Blvd. Wednesday.  When the vehicle stopped, both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle with the passenger fleeing on foot, and the driver being detained.

A search of the vehicle found a .380 caliber handgun.

The 35-year-old driver was also found to have been under the influence, so he was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, concealed carry, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and an OWI.

The passenger remains at large, so if you have any information please contact authorities.
