Some employees at the Kellogg Company Headquarters in downtown Battle Creek were able to return to the building this afternoon after it was evacuated this morning.

The Battle Creek Fire Department responded after a Freon leak was reported just after 10:30am. The leak was located on the fifth floor of the north side of the building. Firefighters shut off the Freon and ventilated the building before clearing the scene.

From the City's release, a couple hundred people were evacuated from the building while some employees were relocated to the south side of the building. 23 people were taken to area hospitals, with 18 to Bronson-Battle Creek and the other five to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

The fire department has cleared the facility, and the Calhoun County Public Health Department will evaluate the building’s kitchen facilities.
