Someone has asked to put up a temporary Nativity scene at Michigan's official state Christmas tree on the Capitol lawn this holiday season, so a secularists group asked to have a counter-display also.

So, in these times, what does the state of Michigan have to do?  They must go to the State Capitol Commission — the body that's tasked with running the statehouse grounds and facilities — and ask Michigan's Attorney General’s office for permission.

Yes, you heard that right.  Daddy or mommy, may I?

Oh, but there is more.

Apparently, the demonstrators are not allowed to keep anything up overnight, so they must take down whatever they erect every evening and reconstruct them each morning.

Have you guessed what is next?

The group who wants to put up the Nativity scene must also take it down every night and resurrect it each morning.

Good idea or bad?

Did you ever think it would come to this — a group needing permission to put a, dare I say, Nativity scene up at Christmas on state property?
