Meet Yasmin: An Incredible Girl On A Mission To Bring Lions To Binder Park Zoo

Ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things.

Today, I got to meet Yasmin, a Kalamazoo area pre-teen, who thought that Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek should have lions — and did something about it.

Yasmin told her mom that Binder Park Zoo should have lions. And her mom, Janine, contacted zoo officials...and to make a short story long, the effort is underway. Yasmin, whose father is from Africa, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to boost the cause. Her pictures and story are on Facebook.

As part of the fundraising effort, we all got together at Airway Fun Center in Portage. Airway has a new rope-climbing attraction, and until 7 p.m. today, people can come over and for $10, experience a little of what Yasmin experience on Mt. Kilimanjaro. $5 will go to the effort to bring lions to Binder Park Zoo.
