A house legislative committee has approved increases of speed limits across Michigan up to 80 miles per hour.

According to Fox 17 and the Associated Press, there would be three tiers of increases. Some surface highways could grow from 55 to 60 miles per hour while rural expressways could grow from 70 to 75 mph and the most rural stretches of expressway such as Interstate 75 north of Bay City would be allowed speeds up to 80 miles per hour.

The bill now goes to the full house for approval.
