A Delta Air Lines flight that left Michigan Monday evening flew back to the airport after a report of a medical emergency onboard the aircraft. The Detroit Free Press reports that a passenger was later pronounced dead by airport medical staff.

The Delta Air Lines flight took off from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport destined for Shanghai at around 4:35pm. Three hours later, the crew made the decision to return after a medical emergency was declared for one of the passengers. It landed back at the airport just after 10:30pm. According to a spokesperson, the passenger was removed from the jet after it landed without incident. That's when medics determined the passenger had died. It's unclear what caused the medical emergency.  No information regarding the identity of the passenger has been released.

According to airport officials, the flight was rescheduled for Tuesday morning and took of at 8:20am.
