Pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc. has announced plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into their manufacturing complex in Portage over the next few years.

Pfizer says over the next 10 years, up to $800 million could be invested in the area.  The initial two projects to the plant on Portage Road would be a $40 million warehouse addition, and a $105 million work center.

The projects would create at least 15 jobs, with around 2,100 already employed at the complex.

To facilitate the expansion, Pfizer has asked the City of Portage for a tax break on the projects, and at Tuesday’s city council meeting a plan to look into the company’s request was approved.

The city’s response is expected sometime next month.
