A Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer shot and killed a person of interest in a kidnapping and sexual assault case yesterday.  Investigators were trying to question the man at a house on Dutton at around 5:30 in the afternoon when they say he pulled a handgun and was shot.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kalamazoo Gazette through MLive identifies the man as Brad Mason. They also reported he had "a long history a 2006 conviction on a charge of accosting children for immoral purposes as well as earlier convictions on charges of breaking and entering and operating a chop shop."

Kalamazoo Police Chief Jeff Hadley has yet to comment, but a news conference is planned for Monday morning.
