A 16-year-old boy, charged with some other teens in connection with firing a handgun inside a restroom at the Kalamazoo Loy Norrix High School, may be charged as an adult.
Prosecutors say they plan to request the juvenile be tried as an adult on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and violation of a weapon-free school zone. Both charges carry up to five years in prison and a $2,500 fine.  The other students will be charged as juveniles.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a 10th-grade boy accidentally fired the gun in the boys bathroom. The other teens helped try to hide the gun, which police eventually found inside the backpack of one of the students.
