Ransomware Scam in Michigan

Authorities are warning residents to be on guard against a scam being used in the area again.

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office reports that people have been getting calls from people claiming to work for Microsoft who say their computer is infected with a virus or has pornographic images on it that need to be removed.

The scammers try and direct people to websites to download software which then takes over the computer.  The caller then demands a fee to release control.
