Snyder’s Stated Second Term Agenda

What does Gov. Rick Snyder want to attempt to accomplish in his second term?  Well Governor Snyder laid out his agenda for his second term yesterday:

1. His No. 1 priority as the governor this next term is the passage of a comprehensive transportation package, and he would like to have his completed and signed by the end of the year.

That means that he and the legislature will need to somehow find a way to fund an additional $1 billion a year in spending.

1. Snyder would like the legislature to consider legislation that would expand the state’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Law to include protections for the gay, lesbian and transgender community.
2. Snyder also wants to continue to concentrate on supporting the skilled trades in Michigan. Snyder said that there are at least 80,000 jobs in Michigan that Michigan businesses cannot find qualified employees for. The governor wants to concentrate this effort in Detroit, where unemployment remains high and skills low.
3. Snyder wants to continue his focus on improving choice for children, from birth through college. The governor, like all fair-minded people, wants more accountability and transparency for all public schools — not just charter schools.
