Sports: Lions win; Will Calvin, Caldwell return?

The Lions end the regular season with a 24-20 win over the Bears at Soldier Field. Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes. Kicker Matt Prater is now the owner of the longest field goal in Lions' history. He booted a 59-yarder at the end of the first half in Chicago yesterday, breaking Jason Hanson's old mark of 56 yards. Prater set the NFL record with a 64-yarder while with Denver. Calvin Johnson had 10 catches for 137 yards and a score for Detroit. Due to salary caps, it’s possible that he’s played his last game as a Detroit Lion. Lions head coach Jim Caldwell now awaits his fate. His future with the team is uncertain with a new GM coming on soon. Caldwell went 11-and-5 with a playoff berth in his first year with Detroit.

NFL

Aaron Rodgers makes a desperate throw at the end zone in the closing seconds ...

The Vikings beat the Packers 20-13 at Lambeau Field to win the NFC North, and end the Packers' streak of division titles.

The Steelers are in the playoffs, thanks to a 28-12 victory over the Browns and Buffalo's win the sent the Jets home for the season.

The Chiefs get a franchise-record tenth straight win ... a 23-17 victory over the Raiders in what could be the final game for the Oakland franchise.

The Texans clinch the AFC South with a 30-6 victory over Jacksonville.

The Carolina Panthers capture the NFC number one seed and home field advantage in the playoffs. Cam Newton ties Steve Young's NFL record for most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 43. It took Young 15 seasons, but Newton did it in just five.

The Broncos beat the Chargers 27-20. With a New England loss to Miami, that gives the Broncos top seed in the AFC playoffs.

The schedule for the NFL playoffs is set. Wild Card Weekend starts on Saturday with the Texans hosting the Chiefs. The Bengals face the Steelers in Cincinnati.

On Sunday, the Vikings host the Seahawks and the Redskins host the Packers.

Red Wings

The Red Wings make the second stop on a six-game road trip tonight at New Jersey. The Wings opened the swing with a 4-3 win at Buffalo on Saturday to snap a three-game skid. Detroit is third in the Atlantic with 45 points.
