Really people, you have the option to support the police as an institution and attempt to point out and correct what you see as wrong with them or not support the police.  Is there another option?

Are there actually people out there who do not support the police, well the answer is unbelievably YES.

The Daily Caller is reporting about a Town Call that former NBA player Charles Barkley attended in which he was shouted down because he supported the police.  Because of the reaction of the attendees at the Townhall his security team had to rush him off the stage which then brought the town hall to an end.

Mr. Barkley asked the attendees why people didn’t mourn the four police officers who were shot throughout the country in a 24-hour period.  He then added that a black man stands accused of killing a white San Antonio Detective Benjamin Marconi.

Mr. Barkley was quoted in the article stating:

Did anybody say, ‘Man, I feel bad for their family?

One of the attendees a mother then stood up and told Mr. Barkley that she didn’t like him or his position on police.  She stated:

I don’t know you, I don’t like you

She stated her son allegedly died after being restrained by police officers.

I can certainly understand someone’s raw emotion if they feel that the police caused their loved one harm or death but not supporting the police as an organization is not the right option.

All big organizations will have some bad apples just like there are bad apples in our families and circle of people we know.

Not supporting the police is not the option in my mind.  If you see an issue with the police department it is all right to criticize and work to improve the problems you see, but throwing the baby out with the bath water when it comes to the only organization that protects the people is not the answer.

It is not like you are choosing between pancakes or eggs for breakfast.  Would you just stop eating breakfast if you believed only eating pancakes was your only option?  No, you would find a different option or work towards a different option.

When there is possible criminal activity occurring at your home, as the Ghostbusters would say, who gonna call?

We are moving into a dangerous area when communities decided that they cannot support their police department as a whole.  Crime will go up and that crime could come to your doorstep.

I recently spoke with a retired police officer that told me what we are seeing occurring around the country with police possibly not pursuing crime as aggressively as they have in the past, is their human response to what they are seeing and feeling from their community and that is dwindling or little support.

Police are human beings like the rest of us and they want to go home to their families at the end of the day like the rest of us.

Also this behavior or sentiment of not supporting the police in my estimation will only do more harm than good.  Will what you want as the “right” people want to make a career in the police force?  Will our police departments around the country have difficulty attracting the “right” people?  I believe if good men and women around the country see support for the police dwindling then only people with the wrong objectives or for the wrong reason will want to be police officers.  Thus only making the situation worse.

An attack against the police is an attack against you. our families and our community.
