A Battle Creek man decided to take on a Sheriff’s deputy with an Airsoft gun, Wednesday afternoon, and he lost.

Authorities say a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a pick-up truck on Avenue A in Springfield that may have been involved in an armed robbery over the weekend in Bedford Township. The truck continued to a home on North 30th Street in Springfield.

The deputy attempted to take the driver into custody, but retreated after the driver went to the garage and returned with a handgun. Investigators say that the man continued towards the deputy with the weapon pointed before shots were fired. The man was struck twice in the torso.

After the shooting, it was discovered that the weapon was an Airsoft gun with the orange tip removed.

The suspect is a parole absconder and is expected to recover.
