Tahquamenon River Is Gushing 3 Times As Much Water as Usual Over the Falls Right Now

Heavy rain showers have soaked parts of Michigan, including major flooding in the middle of the Lower Peninsula. In the Upper Peninsula the best place to see evidence of excess rainfall might be at Tahquamenon Falls.

The popular state park and tourist attraction reports that the falls are running with more than three times the normal flow. Generally the Tahquamenon River sends 3 thousand gallons of water over the cataract. Due to heavy rains in the early summer of 2017, that amount is up to 10 thousand gallons per second, according to the state park Facebook page.

The Tahquamenon River flows 89 miles though the eastern UP from Luce County to Lake Superior at Paradise and famously over two waterfalls.
