This Hastings ‘Dream Home’ Comes Complete With A History

You don't see houses like this come up for sale just every day. A Victorian, Queen Anne style home in Hastings, built by a (be it, minor) Michigan historical figure. And it can be had for a mere$335,000.

But looking at the pictures, it's a beautiful home. The home was built by Daniel Striker. Born in New York state in 1835, but raised in Jackson County. The family bought a tract of land in Barry County in 1851. Striker went to what is now Spring Arbor University and became a teacher. He was also elected a county clerk and eventually became Michigan's Secretary of State from 1871-1874. After that experience, he worked in banking and finance. He built the house in the early 1880's.

The house is an interesting mix of primarily old/historic, but also some new amenities are a part of the mix, with a cooking island in the kitchen

and, it's funny to see new  sink fixtures in the bathrooms.

You have to think this would be the ideal home for someone who goes antiquing on Sundays and has a flair for decorating.

One thing I was wondering, was Daniel Striker any relation to family of Kalamazoo' s Dr. Homer Stryker? None of the articles indicate any relation.
