In the name of  jobs and tax revenue, that's what the press release said. Helping out the auto industry. Ok. I get all that. But aren't we rushing this?

Yeah, it's great technology. Here's a quote from new re-elected Rep. Brandt Iden:

“Not only can the autonomous vehicle industry bring additional jobs and tax revenue to Michigan, self-driving cars have the potential to greatly reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in automobiles. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), human error is the cause of 94 percent of car crashes.

“This comes down to public safety,” Rep. Iden continued. “By replacing human drivers with autonomous operating technology we can greatly reduce the number of fatal accidents, which is a win-win for us all.

Yes, it appears driverless cars are safe, but can we slow down a little and try this out with maybe humans. Just in case. No matter how they spin this, it's first generation technology. No matter how much you test it, it's still going to have bugs. Do we really want to put 2,000 pounds of rollling machinery on the road without some sort of fail-safe, like a human being?

What happens when the first driverless car does make a mistake and, God forbid, it kills a person; or worse yet, a child. THERE ARE NO DO-OVERS! Can we just take still this a little slower. Otherwise, it's insane.

Woo woo,
