Three Broncos Picked in 2018 NHL Draft

With Paul Cotter and Hugh McGing joining Mattias Samuelsson on the NHL Draft board in Dallas Saturday, it marked the most Broncos chosen in one draft under coach Andy Murray's tenure at the WMU Hockey program.Hockey sites and social media was buzzing all day about Samuelsson, who is expected to eventually pair with over-all number one draft selection Rasmus Dahlin as the number defensive pairing for the rebuilding Buffalo Sabres. The two will be joining the 2015 second overall selection Jack Eichel.

After Samuelsson was selected first in the second round, Cotter's name was announced in the fourth round, chosen by the most surprising team of this past season, the Vegas Golden Knights. Cotter, like Samuelsson, an incoming freshman, both players have been chosen for September's Team USA's 2018 World Junior Showcase, a tryout to make USA's roster for the 2018 World Junior Championships.

Finally, in the fifth round, McGing was selected by the St. Louis Blues. According to WMU, ''in two seasons with the Broncos McGing has posted 52 points on 17 goals and 35 assists in just 75 games. McGing enters his junior season on the back of a career-best year, totaling 30 points on nine goals and 21 assists during the 2017-18 campaign."

Since Murray took over the Bronco hockey program from Jeff Blashill, ten WMU players have been selected in the NHL Draft.
