Tigers Fight the Rain, Shut Down Yankees
The Tigers and Yankees sat around for more than four hours waiting for the rain to move out, and seven and a half hours after the scheduled first pitch, the Tigers had a 2-0 win. With that victory, Detroit took the series in the Bronx, two games to one.
In the fourth, Mikie Mahtook walked and scored from first on a James McCann single, when Jacoby Ellsbury bobbled the ball in center.
Jordan Zimmermann worked out of some jams to hold the Yankees scoreless over seven innings. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
That's when the rains returned to Yankee Stadium....a three hour delay. After that the hitters were a little sluggish and Bruce Rondon and Shane Greene were able to shut out the Yanks over the final two.
Jim Adduci had two of the Tigers' six hits on the day.
The Tigers gained a half game on the division leading Indians. They're 8 1/2 games behind the Tribe as they head to Baltimore for the first of four games tonight. Matt Boyd will start for the Tigers. Hear the game at 6:40 tonight on 95.3 WBCK.
