A Traffic stop last night led to the arrest of a Springport man on multiple felonies.

A Calhoun County Sheriff's Deputy pulled over a vehicle in the 7,000 block of M-66 in Leroy Township for a traffic incident.  Once the car was pulled over, the driver ran from the car on foot, leading the deputy to chase him.  The deputy was slightly hurt during the chase and lost the suspect, but did take the passenger in the vehicle into custody.

Other authorities arrived to help catch the fleeing suspect, with officers from the Michigan State Police, Emmett Township Public Safety and Tribal Police setting up a perimeter, and a K-9 from the Battle Creek Police Department tracking the suspect.  After almost a mile, the suspect was found and taken into custody.

Through investigation authorities found that the vehicle had been stolen from Chicago, and contained two stolen weapons and methamphetamine.  Authorities also found that the 26-year-old driver from Springport was wanted in Kalamazoo County for Breaking and Entering, as well as multiple firearms charges.

The suspect was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on Resisting an Officer Causing Injury, CCW, Possession of Stolen Property, and Felony Firearm.

The 24-year-old woman passenger from Battle Creek was arrested on charges on Possesssion With Intent To Deliver Meth, CCW and Possession of Stolen Property.

The deputy was treated and released for his minor injuries at a local hospital.
