Get ready to pay a little more for tuition at Western Michigan University next school year.

The Board of Trustees approved the tuition increase of 4.19 percent Wednesday, which still remains under the State of Michigan’s cap to receive performance funding. The state's cap is set for 4.2 percent. The increase is also just one-hundredth of a full percent short from last year's increase of 3.2 percent.

Based on 30 total credit hours for the upcoming school year in-state freshman and sophomore residents will pay $11,493 in tuition and fees, an increase of $464 from last year. Out-of-state freshman and sophomores would play $25,928 for the full academic year.

Western’s tuition ranks eighth out of Michigan’s 15 public universities.
