As is customary with the change of parties in power and administrations, U.S Attorney for the Western Michigan district, Patrick Miles has announced his resignation, effective with the end of the Obama administration.Miles, who served in his position for over four years, said in a statement, “It’s been an honor and a privilege to lead such an outstanding team of crime-fighters and people who work hard every day to protect the interests of America and its citizens.”

Miles' boss, outgoing U.S. Atty. General Loretta Lynch said, “under his leadership, the district successfully stepped up its efforts to prosecute those who exploit the most vulnerable members of our society, commit violent crimes, or defraud taxpayers."

Miles spent 21 years in private practice prior to becoming U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan on July 9, 2012. He ran for Congress from the 3rd District in 2010.
