How many vehicles were stolen last year?

Well according to data from the Insurance Information Institute, there were 773,139 motor vehicle thefts across the country.  That equals a rate of 237.4 per 100,000 residents.

In 2017 there were 19,573 vehicles stolen in the state of Michigan and according to a list put together by 24/7 Wall Street the most likely place for your vehicle to be stolen in Michigan is no surprise, Detroit.  The city had a total of 12.983 vehicles stolen which comes to 301.0 per 100,000 residents.

In fact according to the Insurance Information Institute Michigan ranked #10 in the states with the most stolen vehicles.

The rankings for most stolen vehicles in a state from 1 to 10 where

  1. California
  2. Texas
  3. Florida
  4. Washington
  5. Georgia
  6. Colorado
  7. Illinois
  8. Ohio
  9. Missouri
  10. Michigan

What surprised me the most was which vehicle was most likely to be stolen in Michigan and that was the Chevrolet Impala.

Really a Chevy Impala?  If you are going to take the risk of paying the price of stealing a car why a Chevy Impala.

Be careful when parking in Detroit.
