Why Do Michiganders Love Breaking This Grammar Rule

How many times a day do you hear a Michigander break this simple grammar rule?  I can’t be the only person that dies a little inside every time it is muttered.

That grammar mistake is…the unnecessary use of the letter “S.”  For example, “I’m going to the Meijers after work.”  “Do you need anything from the Walmarts.”  

My question is, are you going to multiple Meijer stores?

What’s that?  You mean Meijer’s or Walmart’s?”

I’ve checked with my former high school English teacher, Andy Grammer and Kelsey Grammer on that.  They all laughed.  An example of the correct use would be: “Look at Dana’s face when you use bad grammar.   According to grammarbook.com,

Use the apostrophe to show possession. To show possession with a singular noun, add an apostrophe plus the letter s.

Sorry to be the grammar Nazi.
