Craving Fried Chicken? Try These 8 Kalamazoo Area Spots
Do you ever wake up craving a particular food? Today, I woke up determined to eat some fried chicken. In a sandwich, right off the bone, whatever form it's in...I want some fried chicken!
Unfortunately, I haven't yet found 'the spot' to snag some fried chicken. So, I took to the internet. With a combination of yelp reviews and suggests from reddit, here are 8 spots in the Kalamazoo area that, apparently, serve some delicious fried chicken:
1. Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken
On Reddit, kzoobob wrote: Lee’s does pretty alright with user JimJimBinks replying with: YES! Lee's Spicy Fried Chicken is the best in Kalamazoo that I've found. Lee's isn't local to Kalamazoo but, their name was brought up a few different times on Reddit as a place to snag some great fried chicken. They offer combo meals, classics like chicken pot pie, chicken tenders and more. Find their full menu on their website or Facebook page.
2. Latitude 42
With two locations in Portage and Oshtemo, Latitude 42 brews their own line of beer as well as liquors and even serve 'adult' juice boxes. I've been to this establishment a couple of times but somehow never tried the fried chicken. This suggestion was also found on Reddit where user udder_horror commented: If you want something expensive, Latitude 42. Holy hell their fried chicken is delicious. They use Ottos, which is locally sourced. Find their full menu on their website or visit their Facebook page.
3. Lake Burger
When I think of places to get fried chicken generally, a burger place doesn't spring to mind. However, Lake Burger apparently has delicious fried chicken. On Yelp, Joshua C. awarded Lake Burger 5 stars and wrote,
They were out of regular fried chicken (had tenders) so the lady recommended the sandwich and I'm so glad she did. Can't wait to try other menu items next time I'm on the side of town.
If you're more of a burger person it may interest you to know that on the first Tuesday of every month Lake Burger offers $5 burgers all day long. See their full menu on their website or find them on Facebook.
4. Chicken House
In my year in Kalamazoo, I've never heard of this spot. This came as a suggestion on Reddit from user trelli11 who said: Chicken House on Gull Lake!! Their chicken sandwiches are soooo good and they have Plainwell ice cream for dessert. You can sit in the bay of the lake and watch the boat activity. Chicken and ice cream together? I'm pretty much sold. Chicken House is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and have hours where they only serve ice cream. Find out more on their website and stay updated on their Facebook page.
5. Turbo Chicken
This wasn't found on Reddit or Yelp. It's just a spot I happened to stumble upon while searching for fried chicken in Kalamazoo. However, their reviews on their Facebook page look very promising. Susan L. wrote: Did not disappoint! Saw a tik tok about this place and had to stop by while in town. Soo delicious! Turbo Chicken offers combos with fried chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders and, something I haven't seen at many chicken places, a variety of dishes combining tater tots and fried chicken. See the full menu here or follow them on Facebook.
6. Nonla Burger
The second burger spot in town that apparently serves some delicious fried chicken, Nonla was a Reddit suggestion from user zuzuPA (and others) who said: The chicken sandwich at NONLA Burger is the BEST!! On their menu, Nonla Burger offers both a crispy chicken sandwich and a hot chicken sandwich for those of you that crave spice. You can see their full menu on their website or Facebook page.
7. University Roadhouse
On Yelp, Amanda J. didn't speak specifically of the fried chicken sandwich but said,
WOW! Went here last night after work for dinner! The staff, AMAZING! The food, PHENOMENAL!! I sat at the upstairs bar and my server Austin just really outdid everything!
As the name suggests, University Roadhouse is located right news to Western Michigan University and has been in business for 27 years according to their website. Glancing at their menu I see both chicken tenders and a fried chicken sandwich available to order. Of course, they offer a variety of other kinds of dishes as well. You can see their full menu on their website or follow them on Facebook.
8. Hardings
Finally! This is exactly the kind of fried chicken I've been looking for. Because, after doing a week's worth of grocery shopping it's so easy to snag a fried chicken bucket for dinner (instead of cooking everything you just bought). Is that just me? This was another suggestion from Reddit. Specifically, the one on Cork Street was suggested but, I'm sure other Hardings grocery stores offer fried chicken too. It's just a matter of whether or not it has sold out. You can find more about what's offered at your local Hardings on their website or follow them for updates on Facebook.
Whether on a sandwich or with a side of mac 'n' cheese, it's good to know I'll be able to find my fried chicken fix in Kalamazoo!
