At least three schools in Springfield are closed Thursday after student safety became a concern. The Battle Creek Public Schools say Thursday morning that authorities in Springfield let them know there was an active shooter situation in the area of Valley View Elementary and Springfield Middle School; as a result, the district made the call to cancel classes.

The district says roads in the area are closed as well, limiting travel in the Springfield area. Shortly after the BCPS made the call, nearby Endeavor Charter Academy closed down as well for an unspecified reason.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident; details surrounding the investigation remain unclear.
