Another One Bites the Dust – Local Brewery to Close due to Covid

Just like that, 2020 has claimed another local business.

It's clear that when it comes to the pandemic everyone has their own opinion about what's right or wrong, what's working and not working but something we can all mourn is the loss of locally owned businesses.

The latest to announce their closing: Tibbs Brewing Company in downtown Kalamazoo

On their Facebook page they wrote:

They say that all good things must come to an end and our adventure is no different. After 7 amazing years we have decided to close Tibbs Brewing Company. Our current lease expires in December, and with the Covid restrictions weighing heavy on our minds, we have made the decision not to execute our extension option. Our last day of operation will be Saturday, October 3rd.

They continued with,

 Along the way we have witnessed first dates, anniversaries, wedding proposals, bachelor/bachelorette parties, baby showers, and we even hosted a wedding. We’ve also had the honor of being with you after major life events like the birth of a child/grand-child or the loss of a loved one. The fact that you came to celebrate, or mourn, those events with us will forever touch our hearts.

As someone who has both worked in the service industry and still has many friends working as servers and bartenders I can tell you that the service industry has taken a hard hit during the pandemic. Losing a business that's been in the area for nearly 10 years can almost feel like losing a friend. But, there's still time to say goodbye.

Tibbs is still serving their small batch, craft beers until October 3rd. You can find their updated hours on their Facebook page. As well, on October 3rd, they're planning to throw a pandemic friendly goodbye party with food and drinks served outside leaving plenty of room to socially distance.
