She's getting some R-E-S-P-E-C-T. The Michigan House of Representatives has approved a bill to rename a road for the Queen of Soul.

It would be fitting to cruise "Aretha L. Franklin Memorial Highway" in a pink Cadillac. Detroit has just voted to rename a section of M-10 after one of the city's most famous citizens. The vote was not without controversy.

Detroit Free Press reports the bill's sponsor, Representative Leslie Love, D-Detroit, commended Aretha Franklin's "many accolades over the years, not only musical, but in the civil rights and charitable venues as well. 'She gave us all the soundtrack to our lives,' she said." Six Michigan legislators voted "no" on the proposal, including "State Rep. Shane Hernandez, R-Port Huron, [who] said he thinks the honor should be limited to first responders, such as police and firefighters, and military who are killed in the line of duty."

What do you think? Should we be naming streets after Michigan celebrities after they die? Should there be a "Bob Seger Boulevard" someday? Does Ted Nugent deserve a county road named in his honor? Will Kid Rock get a dead end dirt road?
