A Calhoun County man was killed in a crash Thursday that might have been caused by an overhanging tree branch.

WOODTV reports that the crash happened just before 7am Thursday, May 19, at the intersection of S 25th St and East P Ave. in Kalamazoo County’s Pavilion Township; a pickup truck travelling north ended up blowing through a stop sign, t-boning a second pickup heading eastbound.

Both vehicles were sent into a field nearby, and the driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 52-year-old Athens man, was pronounced dead. The other driver suffered minor injuries. Authorities say that it appears the crash might have been partially caused by a low-hanging tree branch, which obscured the view of the stop sign.

The drivers have not yet been identified.
