Authorities Say They Have Likely Found Car That Plunged Into River [PHOTOS]

Calhoun County authorities now believe they have found the location of an SUV that plunged into the river this weekend.

The City of Battle Creek says Sunday evening that emergency crews in a rescue boat dragged a large magnet in the area where the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Rivers come together, and the magnet made contact with what emergency teams believe is the submerged vehicle.

On Monday, area emergency agencies will work with towing companies on how best to remove the submerged vehicle, without using a dive team. Previous dive team efforts by crews from Allegan, Calhoun and Van Buren Counties were unsuccessful.

The vehicle is believed to have entered the river on Dickman Rd. near Capital Ave. around 4:30am Saturday, and teams have been searching for it since then. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, Battle Creek Police Department, Emmett and Bedford Township Fire Departments, along with the Allegan, Calhoun and Van Buren County Dive Teams all assisted in the recovery effort.

It’s not known why the car entered the river, and officials say that they are treating this as a recovery operation, not a rescue.
