The woman driving a minivan struck by an SUV that ran a stop sign in Barry County on
the Fourth of July has died.

Sheriff’s investigators say that 53-year-old Lori Russell of Freeport was flown to an area hospital after her vehicle was struck at Eckert and Wood School roads, just west of Freeport, Thursday afternoon around 2pm. Russell died earlier Friday from critical injuries.

Authorities responded to the accident after the SUV, heading northbound on Wood School, failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. The occupants of the SUV were all from Battle Creek, a 53-year-old man and a 54-, 53- and 48-year-old woman, were all taken to area hospitals for treatment. The people in that vehicle have not been named at this time.

The investigation of the crash continues.
