A Battle Creek man who was a known as an area drug dealer was ordered to serve between 38 months and 20 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.

31-year-old Donta Antonio Scott had earlier entered a guilty plea to a charge of dealing less than 50 grams of a controlled substance after his February 2019 arrest for trying to deliver drugs to a Coldwater Police informant.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed an habitual offender sentencing enhancement.

Scott was given a sentence of between 14 months and two years in March 2017 after entering a no contest plea to an amended charge of maintaining a drug house. Three other charges were dismissed in exchange for the plea.

Scott was charged in that case following an investigation by Coldwater Police into what was described in court documents as a “drug house” on Taylor Street.
