A Battle Creek man was arrested over the weekend after leading police on a chase through two counties.

The incident started around 11:45pm Saturday, as a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Capital Ave. near Bailey Park for a traffic violation. The driver instead sped off, reaching speeds up to 100 mph on Capital Ave. The chase wound through Pennfield and Bedford Townships, before the driver hit stop sticks laid out by Battle Creek Police Officers at the intersection of Baseline Rd. and Hutchison Rd.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Hutchison in Barry County, due to the tires deflating and an apparent engine failure. The driver, a 42-year-old Battle Creek man, surrendered and was taken into custody; he was treated at the scene for an acute asthma attack, before being taken to the Calhoun County Jail.

He’s facing several charges, including fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license, possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine.
