Battle Creek Sets Workshop Date For Recreational Pot Laws

The City of Battle Creek has yet to make a decision on whether to opt out of allowing recreational marijuana businesses to open up, and citizens will have the chance to have their opinions heard next week.

The City of Battle Creek says that on Tuesday, July 16, the Battle Creek City Commission will hold a workshop to discuss recreational pot legislation. Residents will be able to speak for three minutes each on the issue. After Michigan voters approved the legalization of marijuana last November, the law says that municipalities must opt-out of allowing growers, processors, and retail sales if they don’t want them; this is opposed to how medical weed has been operating, which requires communities to opt-in.

In Calhoun County, several municipalities have already opted out:

Municipalities have until November 1 to opt-out, and the state of Michigan is set to start accepting recreational pot business licenses no later than December 6. Battle Creek's workshop on the issue takes place July 16 at 5:30pm at City Hall on Division St.
