Battle Creek Power Outage Caused By Crash Into A Utility Pole
688 people lost power late Sunday night after someone crashed into a utility pole before fleeing the scene.
A sergeant with the Battle Creek Police Department told WWMT that the crash happened on West Van Buren Street, near Jordan Street, at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the Consumer Energy outage map, 688 customers were affected by the outage. After the crash, the sergeant said the vehicles engine caught fire, but was contained to the inside of the engine compartment. The hood and interior did not catch on fire.
Witnesses described the suspect as a woman, but police could not confirm a description or the identity of the suspect.
The sergeant said there were no injuries reported, but it is unknown whether they are unaware if the suspect was injured.
