The City of Battle Creek says Monday morning that a body found early Sunday morning is likely that of the missing Cortez Lewis.

The City says that the body had a wallet with Lewis' identification in it, and that his clothing and "physical characteristics" match those of the 31-year-old Detroit man. Lewis' family has now been notified, authorities say.

An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the body's identity.

Emergency crews responded to the Kalamazoo River at Stringham Rd. and Jackson St around 1am Sunday, after a fisherman in a boat saw the body. The body was close to the south riverbank, and held under tree roots. The body was located about a mile downstream of where the Hyundai Sonata sedan was pulled from the river on March 12.

That car had been driven by 31-year-old Cortez Lewis of Detroit, who was reported missing a day after the car entered the Kalamazoo River on March 4.
